Chiropractic History
The modern recorded history of chiropractic began in 1895 when Daniel David Palmer performed a spinal adjustment on janitor Harvey Lillard.
Harvey had been deaf for seventeen years which he said occurred immediately when he was exerting himself in a cramped, stooping position and at this time he heard something give way in his back.
Soon after the adjustment Harvey Lillard could hear as before.

What is Chiropractic?
A primary healthcare profession dealing with the relationship between the spine and the nervous system. The objective is to promote
optimum function allowing the body to utilise its inborn recuperative ability.
The body is described as having an inborn intelligence which is self healing and self regulating. For example we do not have to think about healing a cut on our finger, this just happens, and we do not have to think about digesting our food, this also just happens.
Chiropractors work with the knowledge that this inborn intelligence can heal your body at the cause of the problem, however this intelligence can be interfered with when there is a subluxation (misalignment) of the vertebrae of the spine. The close relationship between the spine and the nervous system means that the communication throughout the body can be effected.
The objective of a chiropractor is to ensure the flow of information throughout the nervous system without interference to allow this inborn intelligence to work optimally.
The Nervous System
The nervous system is our control system; consisting of the brain, spinal cord and all the nerve fibres throughout the body.
The brain is the control centre and the nerves are the pathways along which the brain sends and receives messages with muscles, organs and glands.
The nervous system is what integrates all of the bodys functions and allows us to operate as one functional unit.
